Chickenpinata is a bold online poetry journal that features accessible, interesting poetry by emerging writers. We want what’s fresh, new, and fun. We especially want to feature women’s voices, although we’re happy to publish poems by men. Chickenpinata values poets whose work does something innovative and interesting with language, sound, and imagery, but again we stress accessibility. We long for the days when both reading and writing poetry was an activity enjoyed by everyone, and we want work that is, of course, literary, but is also meaningful to a broad range of readers at the same time. |
| What type of submissions you are looking for: |
Poetry, any kind, any form–as long as it’s good. We do prefer shorter poems, since they are easier to read on a screen. However, we are not averse to a longer poem if it excites us. |

The theme for the September 2009 issue is “bridges,” broadly interpreted, both literal and metaphorical. |
