“In 1999 Yuan Yang was founded by Shirley Geok-lin Lim in her creative writing class. Beginning in 2001, it developed as an independent and international journal. It offers emerging and established writers a new base for literary excellence and experiment.

The journal has been fortunate to have continuous support from the School of English at the University of Hong Kong. In addition, it has received generous support from the Joint Committees of Management of the Leung Kau Kui and Run Run Shaw Research and Teaching Endowment Funds (2004), and Teaching Development Grants (2005, 2007)

Recently, Yuan Yang received a generous grant from the HKU Culture and Humanities Fund, which will further support the journal’s expansion, international reach, and editorial mission.”
