Revolution House Magazine

Posted on May 18, 2011December 28, 2017 by Every Writer
Revolution House is the brainchild of a disparate group of writers who came together during the tumultuous early months of 2011, when the MFA application anxiety was high and the lows were lower than low. We had a dream of a sprawling farmhouse, a place where we could all escape the dragging monotony of reality. But it's difficult to find a house with fourteen bedrooms, so we ended up here instead, building platforms to launch other dreams. Most of us have never met face-to-face. We are a product of the digital age ?- we rely on Facebook, text messages, and e-mails. But we'll never meet most of you, our writers and readers, face-to-face, either. We rely on the connections forged through thought, through contact that isn't physical. Together, we will build that house, using words as our tools, as the brick and mortar, until we have created something from nothing at all. Revolution House doesn't care if you have a hundred publication credits or if this is your first attempt. Send us your poems, your stories, your moments of shining truth, and we will treat them as we want our own to be treated: with respect and compassion. Send us the work that moves you, for better or worse.

Barge Journal (Defunct)

Posted on May 17, 2011April 18, 2023 by Every Writer
Barge Journal reads unsolicited submissions year round. Submit through our submissions manager on the website. We seek experimental fiction and poetry as well as (emphasis on the creative part) creative non-fiction -- though we prefer non-genre, non-classifiable work above all. Long story short, this isn't the place to submit your literary fiction or formal poetry.

The Subterranean Literary Journal (DEFUNCT)

Posted on May 5, 2011October 23, 2017 by Every Writer
The subterranean literary journal is an independently published literary journal, featuring short stories, poems, autobiographies and art from creative people all over the world. It began in December 2010; created by T. E. Brierley and Liam J. Kelly, two students at university, one studying Graphic design at Huddersfield and the other fine art at Leeds Met. The journals inception was sparked off by a drunken conversation between Tom and Liam, it was one of those nights that included an insane amount of wine and a persistent need to make a lot of noise with any musical instrument we could get our hands on. We decided that we wanted to create something meaningful with the potential to help other writers, a publication where the written word and considered design and typography are held in high regard. We both felt that many publications overlook these and substitute them with sensationalised stories and we strived to create something that would inspire our readers. A non profit literary journal that aims to be self sustaining, selling for the price of costs, it is a place for undiscovered and underground writers to get there work published and hopefully receive the recognition they deserve.

Blue Island Review (Defunct)

Posted on May 3, 2011April 18, 2023 by Every Writer
THE BLUE ISLAND REVIEW is a journal produced by writers living in Lawrence, Kansas. The members of the Blue Island Poetry Group hold these tenets: that poetry is the art of making all suffer; that hypergraphia is a disorder that should be incubated; that the experience of poetry is to induce emotion through image, sound, and association; that narrative is prose, and should remain such in its multiple nefarious forms; that economy of words is most powerful; that love as it is known is a most brutal form of chemical warfare, and that to inflict poetry on the unsuspecting, both in print and in voice, is the highest calling of very sexy people. To that end, we solicit contributions from writers living in (or connected to) northeast Kansas in the hopes that their work reaches more lovers of poetry than it otherwise might.
