High Desert Journal

High Desert Journal is a literary and visual art magazine dedicated to further understanding the people, places and issues of the interior West. Its pages help define this region in literary and artistic terms, and represent a collection of work that charts the changes of a distinctive, unique region. High Desert Journal is one of the first publications to give readers another way to understand and think about the high desert: through the stories and images that spring from the memories and imaginations of writers and artists.

What should I send you?: 1-2 video recordings of 1-2 poems, as well as the poem itself in a .doc/.pdf/.rtf document. The poetry must be your own, read by you, and sent via a YouTube/Vimeo/etc link. Please do not send the file itself, as it will not be considered. If your poem is accepted we will request the actual video file to upload onto Vimeo, YouTube, and the QR site. What sort of poetry should I send you? The poems that we want are those that touch our nerves and our hearts and make us want to throw our computers across the room because they're so damn good. Poems that are aware of, instructed by, and in awe of what has come before them, both historically and in terms of literary tradition.

Little Fiction

At Little Fiction we like to think of the short story as the mp3 of the literary world. And we believe it can do for emerging and indie authors what the digital single did for bands of the same kind. Little Fiction publishes each short story on its own, complete with an original cover design. The stories are made available as free downloads in multiple formats: namely iPhone, iPad, and most Kindle / Kobo style eReaders

Fortunates

drafthorse is a biannual online publication of fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, visual narrative, and other media art where work, occupation, labor—or lack of the same—is in some way intrinsic to a narrative’s potential for epiphany. Our constant theme is “work and no work.” While we’re open to various interpretations, we expect the subject to be fundamental to your submission in some way. We are interested in how work, or the absence of it, effects people and communities on an intimate level. While politics are inescapable, the magazine is not a platform for partisan blunderbussing. We will not consider submissions that do not relate to our theme in any way.

The Cincinnati Review

The Cincinnati Review draws together within its pages the finest creative and critical work from across the country. Writer’s Ink

Writer's Ink accepts accepts any form of English Language creative writing be it prose, poetry, screenplay, etc. Established in 2008, Writer's Ink has published a total of six volumes, with hundreds of submissions from published and unpublished authors from around the globe. Our inaugural issue included a special forward written by poet Philip Schultz, co-winner of the 2008 Pulitzer Prize in Poetry. In addition to 4 general issues, Writer’s Ink has featured two “special edition” issues. The first of these focused on the theme of “The Far East” while the second special issue was dedicated to creative non-fiction.
