Soul Vomit

Soul Vomit is an annual anthology and literary magazine published by Broken Publications. This is a themed anthology; for 2012's anthology publication, the theme is domestic violence and its aftermath. 2012 will be the first ever publication of this anthology, so we need submissions. Soul Vomit is edited by Jennifer-Crystal Johnson, who also does book reviews on the Soul Vomit web site. Because it is still in development, there may be some changes going on as far as the web site goes in order to publish more work by various authors and make it available online. Southern California Review

Southern California Review is the student-run literary journal of the Master of Professional Writing Program at the University of Southern California. We have been publishing fiction and poetry since 1982 and now also accept submissions of creative nonfiction, short dramatic forms, and artwork/photography. SPILT Magazine is a unique approach to visual and literary arts, embodying the principles of equality, compassion, and expression. We are aiming to provide a bi-annual in-print visual and literary arts magazine as well a bi-annual videozine that provides an outlet for art that doesn't have one. This means two things: we are an outlet for art from people who do not normally get published- immigrants, senior citizens, people in poverty, graffiti artists, the youth, and everyday people; and we are an outlet for art that defies any definition, new and experimental art that pushes boundaries.

Squalorly

Squalorly is not your average literary journal. We do not seek scholarly imaginings, or retellings of stories not able to turn heads or change lives. We do not seek stories that don't threaten to scratch the surfaces of the complex world we live in. We do not wish to be educated or entertained by martians, demons, ghosts, or fairy godmothers. Though we know the value of such stories, we are after a different aesthetic, and would like to guide those submissions to other outlets. Squalorly does seek well-thought out stories whose intent is to be ambitious, but controlled, relatively quiet, but loud in message and emotion, suspending of disbelief, but realistic. Above all else, Squalorly wants to be moved, amazed, horrified, and educated about our world, whether it's by verse or through prose. What we want are new voices with new stories to tell that provoke thought and inspire action. We aim to publish stories from the other side of literature, those unexposed and untold, but worthy of being heard.

Steel Toe Review

Tradition means something more than just doing the same things that people before you did with slight variations. Tradition provides a set of conventions and a set of expectations, and all of these can be reinterpreted and remolded and put to new uses. At Steel Toe Review, we strive to find literary and multimedia art that challenges and re-invents traditions. Birmingham, Alabama is a natural home for such work. Anyone with knowledge of Birmingham's history knows that it is in many ways not at all a traditional Southern city, and yet it has stubbornly held onto Southern traditions perhaps more than any other comparable city.

Talking Writing is an online literary magazine that supports writers and those interested in literature by encouraging creative discussion of the writing process. Each issue of Talking Writing features the work of a poet, a fiction writer, and a visual artist or photographer. TW includes long reviews and personal essays, pieces that are often hard to place in print. We are committed to a new kind of magazine, one that’s dynamic, talky, inspiring, and not too dusty.

The Analectic Online Literary Magazine

The choice of our online literary magazine's title comes from the word analects in literary criticism - selections of literary work. From the Greek, analekta -selected things. The Analectic publishes, fiction, creative non-fiction, poetry and short stories. We also offer creative writing contests. All work should be submitted electronically. We encourage a variety of writing styles, genres and creative venues. We also accept established writers, so long as the work submitted has not been previously published. The Four Quarters Magazine

The Four Quarters Magazine is a non profit publishing venture from India dedicated to the fostering of creative writing in English. Beginning December 2011, the Magazine shall be published every three months in a digital format for the time being. We are of course trying to explore the possibility of a more tangible medium of publication, but are generally averse to the idea of entire forests being destroyed for the purpose of providing paper for a more "intimate reading experience." Enthusiasts from different professional backgrounds across several cities in India as well as from outside the country are part of this venture and the editorial board of the magazine.
