Slice of Life is a new online journal for flash prose. We are connected to the online writing workshop, Diving Deeper, but you don’t have to be a member to submit your work. We are looking for windows into life. Although we do not publish fiction, ‘creative’ memoir or creative nonfiction is welcome. What we want is the mundane, the strange, the exciting, the horrifying. Stories that make us weep, laugh, or just sigh appreciatively. Stories that make us feel not quite so alone. We are also interested in your artwork – photographs or other images, that could be posted alongside the writing.

The purpose of The First Line is to jump start the imagination-to help writers break through the block that is the blank page. Each issue contains short stories that stem from a common first line; it also provides a forum for discussing favorite first lines in literature. The First Line is an exercise in creativity for writers and a chance for readers to see how many different directions we can take when we start from the same place.

The Madison Review is an literary arts journal published through the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Published semiannually, each issue of The Madison Review contains previously unpublished fiction, poetry, and art as well as interviews with well-known writers. Contributors to the Review have included I.B. Singer, Stephen Dunn, Lisel Mueller, May Sarton, Charles Baxter, Roberto Fernandez, and C.K. Williams. The Madison Review has also had the privilege of interviewing such literary figures as Bret Easton Ellis, Chuck Palahniuk, David Sedaris, Lorrie Moore, and Dean Young. Founded in the early 1970s by students from the university's creative writing program, The Madison Review remains a student-run journal to this day.

Why the name THRUSH? Thrushes are a species of bird, the songs of some considered to be among the most beautiful in the world. We love that and that is how we feel about poems. Why is THRUSH only poetry? We love fiction, and read it often. We feel there are many beautiful journals we admire that offer prose. Our passion is poetry.
