I teach two groups locally, and one of this week's exercises was for them to visit the older part of a local graveyard, preferably one with which they were not familiar, and to seek out a grave that appealed. I suggested looking for unusual older names, and having found one or two, looking at the gravestones and the setting of the graves, then 'grafting' a character onto the person beneath their feet and telling the story of that character.

A couple of people found it difficult to do, but the work coming from those who managed it was amazing. The 'historical' aspect  meant some people were out of their comfort zone in language terms, but they all agreed the 'stretching' was a valuable experience. Definitely a keeper!

This topic is of particular interest to me as
I am in College pursuing my secondary education degree.

One thing I am certain of is that I want to make
the dry, dull task of craft exciting and vibrant for
students.

Learning craft, and the very basics of writing, can be dreadfully dull.
It needn't be. My goal is to make spotting a dangling participle,
and correcting it, as exciting as downloading songs.

Making the basics hip. I'll share what I can as time goes on.
