Should newspapers and magazines run poetry and short stories?

We had a petition going before on this subject, but the interface wasn't all that great (meaning the indy company we used sucked). Anyway, I thought it might be neat to just ask you hear. If you think it would help newspapers or magazines to run short stories and poetry vote and post what you think here.

I believe it would help. They are in big trouble, so I think posting some original work from the community would help some papers. What do you think.

 This is something I have never thought about. It seems to me that if newspapers want to keep or increase readership, they would be interested in new ideas that will help them do just that.
 Newspapers could use this to become part of the community by showcasing the talent of those they serve. This could be a win/win situation for all by getting the work of the local writers out and increasing the image of the newspaper by not just reporting all the bad and negative, but also showing support for the residents they serve.

This isn't really something new,
but something papers used to do,
and also magazines did too.

It would be nice and make a change
if flimsies extended their content range
from 'True Story-How I caught my Hamster's mange"

Or photos of latest celebs marriage
plus how child was conceived in their car in their garage
and all snapped by paparazzi floating over in a barrage.

It would be nice to have a poetry section
with amusing, serious or both in a collection
and might well improve their publication on purchasing selection.

Of course I'm also a fan of stories short
so as Yoda would say "Include them they ought!"
and I'm sure they would find more issues would be bought.

It expresses pure and understandable emotions, easy to read, and delivered in an uncluttered way.   It resonates, at least with me.
