Authors Alice Hoffman, Sebastian Junger, Sue Miller, Dennis Lehane, Chef Ming Tsai, Bruins’ Cam Neely and more to present the “Best of”Ploughshares on November 14th on the Paramount Stage
What: Ploughshares 40thAnniversary Celebration – The award winning literary magazine founded in 1971 celebrates its 40th anniversary with an evening of literary performance at Boston’s Paramount Theatre hosted by actor-comedian and Emerson alum Denis Leary. The evening will showcase some of the best work published during Ploughshares’ 40 year history to be read by some of the area’s most beloved authors and celebrities.

An anniversary is a day that commemorates a past event that occurred on the same day of the year as the initial event. The first event is the initial occurrence or, if planned, the inaugural of the event. One year later would be the first anniversary of that event. The word was first used for Catholic feasts to commemorate saints. Thanks.

Most countries around the world celebrate national anniversaries, the United States bicentennial. These could be the date of independence of the nation or the adoption of a new constitution or form of government. The important dates in a sitting monarch’s reign may also be commemorated, an event often referred to as a jubilee. Thanks a lot.

Realizing that they and their supporters would never be able to agree on a specific editorial outlook for the magazine, the co founders decided that the position of editor would be a rotating one. Since then, ploughshares has been edited by a different author for every issue, giving the magazine a unique and constantly changing voice. Thanks a lot.

Although lavish parties in fancy locations are the choice for some, a more casual, yet elegant, event at the home of a friend or relative can be equally festive. For most couples with children, the kids are no longer tiny and should be included in the celebration. Thanks a lot.
