From the Publisher
Kore Press was founded in 1993 by the creative efforts of book designer Lisa Bowden and poet Karen Falkenstrom. Kore’s vision has been to publish and distribute excellent works of literary and artistic value by a diversity of women, female and female-identified, those traditionally underrepresented in the cultural mainstream; to promote those voices; and to educate young people about bookmaking, printing, the literary arts as social activism, and publishing. Inspired by the words of Alison Hawthorne Deming on how to survive as a woman artist, Kore opened house and printed Ms. Deming’s terse advice as their first publication, called “Girls in the Jungle.” Since then, this feminist-literary-arts-press has brought over 40 creative works by established and new voices into print.
We seek chapbook and book-length manuscripts in poetry, memoir, short fiction and creative nonfiction, written by women, that reflect the highest standards of literary quality. We are open to work that is genre-bending and/or experimental. Please see our web site to get an idea of who and what we publish, and our submissions guidelines, which vary by season.
Information on Suggestions on Submitting: We have 2-3 contests per year, and an Open Submissions period in January. We do not accept unsolicited manuscripts outside of those submission periods. Please do not query unless you have been previously published at Kore Press or happen to be Claudia Rankine. See our website for clear guidelines.
Please make sure to check the publishers guidelines for information before submitting.
