Poetry can be as foundational as rock, as light as paper, as incisive as honed scissors. At RockPaperPoem, we print poetry that sticks in your throat like a peach pit \u2013 undissolvable, unmovable, permanent. We feature poems that glide as easily as paper planes \u2013 airy, translucent, even lyrical. But we also want the sharpness of a scythe that cuts away the chaff and may even nick us in the process, leaving a stunning essence. . The mission of RockPaperPoem (RPP) is to publish the finest contemporary poetry available in English in an attractive, easily accessible, online platform for readers in the U.S. and around the world. We seek work from Our long-term vision is to become a leading U.S. online poetry journal recognized for its high-quality content, attractive design, reader accessibility, and contributor friendliness. We want to be known for promoting a wide variety of poetic styles, diversity in poetic voices, and a welcoming, inclusive community of poets in our publication. We do not accept work from submitters that exhibits racism, xenophobia, sexism, ageism, classism, religious prejudice, ableism, or hatred of any marginalized group or individual. RockPaperPoem is an online poetry journal that began in 2021, and publishes three issues per year. In only two years, we have received more than 1,600 submissions consisting of nearly 6,000 poems from 46 US states (and DC) and 35 foreign countries. We have published poems authored by 96 poets from all over the US and from Europe. RockPaperPoem is a poet-run, online journal that seeks to offer the finest poems to a broad readership who values imagery, emotion and humanity in poetry. We love multi-layered work that draws the reader in, then turns to unexpected places and themes, and makes us want to read the piece again. We have no structural, academic or style requirements, though we do prefer free verse.<\/p>\n
Submissions<\/h3>\n
RockPaperPoem presents a uniquely blended mix of poetry. We’re grounded in imagery, emotion and humanity, but we also showcase varied styles and themes to keep the journal fresh. We strive to be accessible, but not trite; edgy and bright, but not wildly experimental. For readers and contributors alike, we package our authors’ work in an attractive no-fee zine and make it available to the world. We like free verse pieces, devoid of typos and grammatical errors. But most importantly, we like a poem that draws the reader in quickly, clearly develops an emotional depth, is multi-layered in its language, and ends memorably. It invites the reader back a second time…or more! We want the most polished work. We look for the best poems, regardless of form or subject matter. Submissions are open to any poet writing in English from anywhere in the world. However, we do not accept translations at this time. We encourage submissions from writers of all backgrounds, including LGBTQIA+ writers, writers of color, unpublished writers, writers with disabilities, and international writers. All who submit work must be at least 18 years of age.<\/p>\n
Upcoming<\/h3>\n
Publishing our online journal triannually is currently our primary focus. However, our near-term vision is to expand our programming to add offerings such as poetry contests with cash prizes, online poetry readings by RockPaperPoem contributors and other published poets, and additional award nominations to recognize our outstanding contributors.<\/p>\n
