From the Editor<\/h2>\n

As a transdisciplinary forum for discourse, The Turnip Truck(s) is an evolving graphic landscape for writers, poets, essayists, artists, cultural theorists, critics and commentators who are interested in the dialectics of the human and its environment(s). While The Turnip Truck(s) publishes artistic and critical works, we are particularly interested in developing a new textual prototype, the thought-object. The thought-object is a translation of an idea, affect or effect, event or experience, into a tangibly cogent \u201cobject\u201d (textual, visual, virtual, time-based) for commentary, reflection, and\/or critical analysis.<\/p>\n

Submissions<\/h2>\n

We accept general submissions year-round and are happy to accept simultaneous submissions of creative and critical work. In some cases, we are willing to accept previously published pieces, as long as you retain the copy rights.<\/p>\n

Upcoming<\/h2>\n

For our first issue, Phenomenology and Music, we seek work in any genre that explores the idea of music in its original formulation as musica, or muse: a longing, an unnamable desire to know. We experience music as a biorhythmic melancholia, the rhythmic utterance of all beings, that gives voice to the predicament of unknowing. Music unfolds in an unnamable region that restores us to our unruptured and continuous being. The mystery of music is its ability to profoundly move us even in its simplest manifestations. Bob Dylan\u2019s \u201cShelter from the Storm\u201d is three repeated chords with no bridge–simple stanzas, that nonetheless create a profound poetic experience that is greater than the sum of its parts. Share with us, as a maker or listener, how you experience music.<\/p>\n

We welcome works that engage with questions such as these:<\/p>\n

What are the intersections between lived experience and the rhythmic?<\/p>\n

How is musicality involved in life itself?<\/p>\n

What is the role of music in the aesthetic of our everyday life?<\/p>\n

What are the spiritual qualities of musicality in its various historical and cultural manifestations?<\/p>\n

What is the relationship between vision or visuality and music?<\/p>\n

What role does music play in the economy of power?<\/p>\n
