Long Exposure Magazine was set up to bring together writing and the visual arts or other forms of media, and explore the creative possibilities of this. We began with a focus on the Ekphrastic genre of poetry, poetry which responds to a visual stimulus, but the breadth of what we publish has grown with the diversity of work submitted. We have received creative writing linked to painting, photography, sculpture, engraving and even dance, and as such the magazine has served as a platform to bring many projects which synthesise these elements in some way to wider attention, many of which would have been unsuitable for traditional magazines and may not have found publication. We have been frequently surprised and inspired by the work being produced in these fields, and the magazine has sought to find these niches, give them broader exposure, and in turn pass that same surprise and inspiration on to our readers. We publish frequently at our site, and also produce full digital editions based on the volume of work received, generally 2-3 editions annually. We feature poetry, photography, visual art and various combinations of these, and are also open to proposals for essays and articles relating to literature and the visual arts. We have also recently opened our submissions to flash fiction of 700 words or less, following the success of an earlier issue dedicated to short poetic forms, and as such the magazine maintains an interest in hybridity, blurring and breaking boundaries, and bringing forward original and engaging work.<\/p>\n
Work which combines text and image, either the work of an individual or that of writers and artists collaborating is of particular interest, along with work which synthesises writing with other art forms and mediums. We look for work which is pushing boundaries and exploring possibilities in these fields. We also accept general submissions of poetry, short short fiction, photography and art work on their own merit.<\/p>\n
The next issue will be dedicated to the flash fiction\/micro fiction form, and will aim to be a platform for what is being explored in this genre.<\/p>\n
