In wood<br \/>\nshelters, on oaken<br \/>\nchairs, we hide<br \/>\nbehind doors.<\/p>\n<p>The grain in wood,<br \/>\nan image of time,<br \/>\ncrosscut rings<br \/>\nemanating out<br \/>\nfrom the heartwood,<br \/>\nfrom the moment<br \/>\nseed took root<br \/>\nin the sunlight.<\/p>\n<p>Shade becomes<br \/>\nbony shadow but<br \/>\nthe light at night<br \/>\nbeholds all things<br \/>\nwith tenderness,<br \/>\ncaresses, softens<br \/>\nhard edges, offers<br \/>\nthe eye surcease<br \/>\nin the subtleties<br \/>\nof darkness.<br \/>\nIV<\/p>\n<p>Morning breeze<br \/>\nbrings the sound<br \/>\nof rain falling<br \/>\nnot from skies<br \/>\nbut leaves.<br \/>\nClouds, having<br \/>\nmoved on,<br \/>\nlook back<br \/>\nand hear<br \/>\ntrees whisper<br \/>\nthe soft, wet<br \/>\nstory of their past.<\/p>\n<p>V<\/p>\n<p>Underfoot, the crush<br \/>\nof leaves gives off<br \/>\nwhispers of summer sun,<br \/>\nhush of starlit nights,<br \/>\nmusty essence of time<br \/>\nin their becoming dust.<\/p>\n<p># # #<br \/>\nPhil Boiarski has been writing and publishing for more than forty years.
