When the plane crashes
\nI land
\nin my mother’s kitchen<\/p>\n

Ma, at the sink
\nshifts flour for a yellow cake
\nto match our yellow curtains<\/p>\n

Dinner is in the oven<\/p>\n

She is not surprised to see me
\nor the nose of the plane
\ncartooning our ceiling<\/p>\n

Sitting at the warped
\nfomica table I do
\nlong division<\/p>\n

Perpetual transistor radio
\nplays Paul Anka
\nConnie Francis
\ntime-lines to the the Kennedy Assassination
\nFreedom Marches
\nThe first blackout
\nThe second blackout
\n911<\/p>\n

and the shootings
\nthe shootings
\nthe shootings<\/p>\n

Ma faces the sink
\nI watch her back and know
\nwhich apron she wears
\nby the apron strings:
\nconsciousness-raising apron
\nburning bra on her chest<\/p>\n

Scrabble apron
\nbib stitched with a board winning bingo<\/p>\n

There is the crackle of roast beef cooking
\nGastric temptation of searing fat
\nThe old boil of vegetables<\/p>\n

I find home<\/p>\n
