{"id":1987,"date":"2013-09-08T23:46:17","date_gmt":"2013-09-08T23:46:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.everywritersresource.com\/poemeveryday\/?p=1987"},"modified":"2017-07-11T21:07:11","modified_gmt":"2017-07-11T21:07:11","slug":"left-radio-ann-yu-huang-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.everywritersresource.com\/poemeveryday\/left-radio-ann-yu-huang-2\/","title":{"rendered":"I Left the Radio On by Ann Yu Huang"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.everywritersresource.com\/poemeveryday\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/annhuang.bmp\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1988\" src=\"http:\/\/www.everywritersresource.com\/poemeveryday\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/annhuang.bmp\" alt=\"annhuang\" \/><\/a><\/h1>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\">I Left the Radio On<\/h1>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">by Ann Yu Huang<\/p>\n<p>I left the radio on for a thousand days, the whisper of<br \/>\nmy name, the sigh, the breadth, the thrust on my throat and<br \/>\nthe hold of your heart.<\/p>\n<p>One thousand days of joy, happiness and misery,<br \/>\nof blinking wishes, political debates, lights turned-on-and-off,<br \/>\ncats and dogs, wind with oranges, fish and grapefruits, nights and lies.<\/p>\n<p>One thousand days of red velvet, blue sea, green scotch,<br \/>\ndark skin, amplified music, lonely nights, loathsome mornings,<br \/>\nbewildered moments in between them.<\/p>\n<p>One thousand days of sunny lounges, rainy shoes, baby<br \/>\ncalling and touching, regretful words, forborne arguments,<br \/>\nbudget rooms, rioting car chase, eventful forgetfulness, crazy moods,<br \/>\nennui and shortcomings.<\/p>\n<p>One thousand days of wandering and finding a place, seeking<br \/>\nthe right hour, making jokes, asking for advice, shocking, choking, playing<br \/>\nMonopoly, staging the desk with<br \/>\na bamboo tree in a heart shape.<\/p>\n<p>One thousand days of picking up mail, jogging alone, craving<br \/>\nMexican food, jumping for the excitement of loving and living,<br \/>\nemptying the gold fish pond, asking for help, the different kinds of<br \/>\nassistance, the longing, making a home, cooking and reading,<\/p>\n<p>wondering about jealousy and the promise, if<br \/>\nit is going to be another<br \/>\none thousand days (have<br \/>\nto stop here or I will never!)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>###<br \/>\nAnn Yu Huang was born in Shanghai, China and moved to Mexico when she was a teen. She graduated from Bernard Baruch College of the City University of New York cum laude and has co-founded the home-healthcare brand Nature Bright Company. She is currently a candidate of MFA program in poetry at Vermont College of Fine Arts. She has studied with poets and writers Michael Steinberg, Barbara DeMarco-Barret, Nahid Rachlin, Gerald Costanzo, Jean Valentine, Rigoberto Gonzalez, Leslie Ullman, Natasha Saje and Richard Jackson.
