My turn had come;
\nBilly Pigg, helmet lost,
\nshrapnel alive in him,
\nblood free as air,
\ndying in my arms.<\/p>\n

Billy asked a blessing, had
\nnone since birth. My canteen
\ncame his font. Then he said,
\n\u201cI never loved anybody.
\nCan I love you?\u201d
\nMy father told me,
\nhis turn long gone downhill;
\n\u201cKeep water near you, always.\u201d
\nHe thought I\u2019d be a priest before
\nall this was over,
\nnot a lover.<\/p>\n
