Hylton<\/p>\n<p>They say to get over someone<br \/>\nYou&#8217;re supposed to pick up a new hobby<br \/>\nAnd apparently the most cathartic<br \/>\nAre the hobbies where you make something<br \/>\nSo you bring a woodworking bench<br \/>\nPast the film cameras, the roller skates, the bass guitar<br \/>\nAnd hope that a new birdhouse<br \/>\nWill take away memories<br \/>\nBetter than the temporary<br \/>\nReprieve granted by neon flavored shots<br \/>\nAnd long legs that walk in directions<br \/>\nYou don&#8217;t really want to go<\/p>\n<p>But one birdhouse only leads to another<br \/>\nA gateway carpentry<br \/>\nAnd pretty soon the whole living room<br \/>\nIs filled with 353 birdhouses<br \/>\nThen you realize you don&#8217;t even like birds<br \/>\nFucking feathered freaks that shit on their own food<br \/>\nWhy do they deserve to live in such palaces<br \/>\nWhile you can barely afford a one bedroom apartment<br \/>\nThat smells of burnt out cigarettes and stale new beginnings<\/p>\n<p>In fact you hate birds<br \/>\nYou think about taking all the houses<br \/>\nOutside and lighting them on fire<br \/>\nTo be rid of the clutter<br \/>\nBut while you&#8217;re looking for matches<br \/>\nYou run across a keepsake that you shouldn&#8217;t still keep<br \/>\nAnd pretty soon you&#8217;re staring at a blank text message<br \/>\nTrying to think of the right thing to say to the wrong person<\/p>\n<p>Thinking honesty is the best option<br \/>\nYou start typing out &#8220;I mis&#8211;&#8221;<br \/>\nBut you can&#8217;t even stand to look at the words<br \/>\nAs if somehow seeing them makes<br \/>\nThem more real and you know honesty<br \/>\nIs only appreciated by hearts that want to beat<br \/>\nNot by those looking for refuge behind walls<\/p>\n<p>You throw the phone across<br \/>\nThe birdhouse mountain range<br \/>\nAnd do the only thing you know<br \/>\nHow to do at this point<br \/>\nStart on number 354<\/p>\n<p>###<\/p>\n<p>Jessica K.
