Wet Leaves<\/h1>\n

Wet leaves
\nglistening
\non the pavement
\nin a late Autumn rain.
\nShining shadows in the streetlight.
\nBike tires rolling,
\ncar tires speeding.
\nThe road,
\nit seems
\nto be flooding.<\/p>\n

The wind,
\nit is whipping,
\nhowling and whispering.
\nIt stings
\nthe eyes
\nand blinds
\nthose on the move.
\nAn acute ocular stunning;
\ncasting you ever
\nso close
\nto the wet leaves gathered
\nat the far side of the road.
\nTake heed
\nand don’t listen
\ntoo closely
\nto the wind.<\/p>\n

The birds,
\nseagulls and ducks
\nand scavengers
\nare in flight adrift,
\nspinning 360s
\nin a desperate bid
\nfor their tenuous control
\nof the air.
\nTrying not
\nto meet
\nthe same ends as their friends
\non the ground,
\nsplattered roadkill
\nrotting in a final state
\nof obscure decay.
\nThe birds might be better off
\nkeeping to the air
\nfor as long as they can.<\/p>\n

Wet leaves
\nlaying,
\ncompletely unfit
\nfor praying
\nor any other
\ntheological past-times.
\nThey will be staying
\nuntil someone gets around
\nto raking the whole mess up.
\nThe road,
\nit seems
\nto be clearing.<\/p>\n
