My palms look like pound signs–
\nI carry trail work with me.<\/p>\n

We rise from the dull doorway
\nof Smith\u2019s China Shop,<\/p>\n

you tuck your hair back-
\npack-creased beneath your cap,<\/p>\n

step into the oil-lacquered street
\nfrom a car\u2019s vacant spot,<\/p>\n

pavement yet warm to the feet
\nlike the berth a dog left to lie elsewhere,<\/p>\n

your quick wave to get a move on,
\nyour glance a warming against the fulminating sky.<\/p>\n

I bury my head in my chest fighting
\nthe blistering gusts of wind–<\/p>\n

the rain, which had begun
\nto slacken, continues to.<\/p>\n
