Stein<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\nWhoever hopes<br \/>\nfor a moderate summer<br \/>\nis a dreamer or a fool.<br \/>\nThe hard-bitten soul<br \/>\nlooks for a place to hide<br \/>\nthese four months,<br \/>\nor acquires a parched face<br \/>\nto match a parched earth.<br \/>\nA local thunderstorm,<br \/>\nas brief as it is rare,<br \/>\nrestores prairie grass<br \/>\nfrom brown to green<br \/>\nfor only the quickest eye.<br \/>\nA dozen cattle<br \/>\nhuddle in the shade<br \/>\nof a lone tree.<br \/>\nAbove them all,<br \/>\nthe sovereign sun<br \/>\nrules over a land<br \/>\nthat can only submit \u2013<br \/>\nand try to outlast<br \/>\nthe monarch\u2019s heavy yoke.<\/p>\n<p>###<\/p>\n<p>Howard F. Stein, a medical, applied, psychoanalytic, and organizational anthropologist, and organizational consultant, is professor emeritus (that is, old \ud83d\ude42 in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, Oklahoma City, OK. He is currently group process facilitator in the American Indian Diabetes Prevention Center, Oklahoma City. He has published over 200 articles and 27 books, of which 7 are books or chapbooks of poetry.
