It means parrot, you said. I called you papuga, too.<\/p>\n<p>We used to sit on the kitchen step and you\u2019d carve the fruit up for us.<br \/>\nYou always used the same knife, black handle, flexible, serrated.<\/p>\n<p>As I grew older, I was always surprised you fed the cantaloupe to me<br \/>\nfrom the tip of the knife. You never cut me. Not once.<\/p>\n<p>When Nana woke up, you\u2019d whisper \u201cNana Banana\u201d and I\u2019d giggle.<br \/>\nI\u2019d run to her and give her a good morning hug.<\/p>\n<p>Now I give her hugs for comfort, and I find I can\u2019t remember<br \/>\nthe last time I had a cantaloupe.<\/p>\n<p>###<\/p>\n<p>I am an English teacher, writer, photographer, gardener and devoted dog owner! I also enjoy sewing, archery and kayaking. It is my goal to build a writing career while continuing my work as an educator.
