\nthat rot in the Earth
\nor a bucket
\nof grenades
\nsome meek hero
\nthrew overboard
\nin the Leyte Gulf.<\/p>\n
Silence is
\na wet stone
\nwithout a carved name
\ntaking storm knives
\nin a mile-wide
\ncemetery in
\nthe Philippines
\nor bones
\nin a Kwajalein cave
\ncoming up white as
\ngood teeth
\nin a hard jaw.<\/p>\n
Silence is
\na big RBI some kid
\ndrove home in Kansas
\nin ’41 and a father
\nremembers the ball
\ngoing like a bullet
\ninto left center.<\/p>\n
