In Tennessee<\/h2>\n

We lived in the tenth poorest county
\nIn the united states.<\/p>\n

We resided in a shed
\nWhich was falling in
\nDue to termites.<\/p>\n

We did not have electricity
\nOr running water.<\/p>\n

I was in high school
\nAnd free lunch was my only meal.<\/p>\n

In the winter
\nWe kept our eggs and milk,
\nWhen there was eggs and milk,
\nOn the front porch.<\/p>\n

It was the only time of year
\nWe were allowed to have those luxuries.<\/p>\n

Without a refrigerator
\nThe cold air kept our food fresh.<\/p>\n

One night an animal came
\nFrom out of the darkness.<\/p>\n

While we slumbered
\nIt snatched our eggs.<\/p>\n

After that
\nWe didn’t eat for a while.<\/p>\n

And while there are still people
\nWho live like we did<\/p>\n

There is another kind of person
\nWho thinks poverty is a choice.<\/p>\n

People who never
\nMissed a dinner<\/p>\n

For a sold week.<\/p>\n

I was born in Portland Oregon, but have enjoyed a life of travel since I was a young person. I have lived in almost every inland state in the country.
