Salt Marsh Soliloquy<\/h2>\n

under a pewter sky
\na meandering stream
\nwends its way
\nthrough straw-brown sea grass<\/p>\n

a musky essence rises
\nwith the ebb and flow
\nof tidal rhythms
\nfrom the Sound
\ndown and round the bend<\/p>\n

a tilted fence
\nsifts gentle breezes
\nthrough weathered gray slats<\/p>\n

a snowy egret
\npoised on edge
\nof its reflection
\nmelds two images into one<\/p>\n

an Osprey returns to her thatch
\ndangling her catch
\nover three eager beaks
\nstraining for a piece of the prize<\/p>\n

to see and not be seen
\nis the way of the day
\nplaying out its rituals
\nin the fading metallic hue
\nof late afternoon<\/p>\n

live simply
\nfully freely and well
\nwaiting a lifetime
\nfor nothing to happen<\/p>\n
