Channeling Emily<\/h2>\n

Emily heard new oak leaves
\nunfurl barely making a sound
\nshe heard the faint noise of
\neggs hatching
\ntiny first throated cries<\/p>\n

she strode through the fox gloves
\nher small feet left no print
\nshe listened to the creek
\ntill her ears filled with
\ntiny bells of her poetry
\nshe looked up through the
\nheavy branches of a maple
\nat the wood thrush<\/p>\n

Emily opened her small hands
\nover the meadow grass
\nand spoke softly of bees
\nshe lay in her virgin bed
\nsmelling of clean linen
\nand dreamt of warblers
\nindigo buntings and larks<\/p>\n

Jean Varda\u2019s poetry has appeared in The Berkeley Poetry Review, Poetry Motel, Manzanita Poetry & Prose of the Mother Lode & Sierra, Avocet A Journal of Nature Poems, California Quarterly and The Red River Review.<\/em> Her poem \u201cNaming Her\u201d, published in River Poets Journal<\/em> 2012 was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. She has taught poetry writing workshops,hosted a poetry radio show and sponsored poetry events at cafes. She presently lives in Grass Valley CA.
