The rock exudes<br \/>\na warm, gun-powdery scent,<br \/>\nstrangely uplifting.<br \/>\nHis breathing steadies. The tremor stops.<\/p>\n<p>Now his hands and feet work<br \/>\nin concert through the final moves.<br \/>\nThe reapers, jeering, pile back<br \/>\ninto their vehicle and drive away.<\/p>\n<p>Aaron lies on the rocky platform<br \/>\nat the top, open to heaven,<br \/>\nwaiting for celestial bands to play,<br \/>\ndancers to sashay in.<br \/>\nNothing.<\/p>\n<p>He moves to the edge and scans<br \/>\nthe drop. No Josie at the bottom.<br \/>\nThen Aaron sees her:<br \/>\nsoloing the pathway out.<\/p>\n<p>###<\/p>\n<p>I have been an avid writer of short stories and poems for many years.
