Something created. Does the creator think ahead
\nor spill a storm. Rain happens. We supply the
\nreasons. Evaporation of water collecting over
\nhuge expanses, condensed and pushed as clouds
\nover the land. We say it makes us sad or depressed.
\nWe want to cry.<\/p>\n
You describe the America you know and if you
\nare ashamed of yourself for what you see, you lie.
\nOr don\u2019t look. Loud noises of automobiles and
\nfumes. Today in Riverside Park, leaning on a rail,
\nthe dead leaves and snow reminded me how far
\nfrom nature and life I am. The snow blew
\nin from the west. People passed in a smooth
\nslow line in front of me. Dogs trailing one
\nanother. People hiding until crises bring them
\nout. Their dog smells another dog between the legs.
\nThe master runs over to stop him. Maybe he
\nthinks they\u2019re going to fight. Doesn\u2019t want his
\nbig German shepherd to hurt her dachshund.<\/p>\n
Guy runs past in gray sweats on his tip-toes.
\nGlances at me. Another passes in blue sweats. Looks
\nlonger. They think I\u2019m a mugger. They are not
\nsexually attracted. I\u2019m an opponent. I want something
\nthey have. I look surly. Why aren\u2019t I out
\nrunning, disciplining myself, making myself healthy,
\ndoing something. What brings you out here. You\u2019re not
\ndoing anything but watching us and staring at the ground.<\/p>\n
Walking down Broadway I realized I\u2019ve never lived here and still don\u2019t. Two women
\nwindow shopping is strange to me. They talk about the clothes. They are friends. I slow down, I
\ndon\u2019t feel so cold. Stroll, looking at people is like a sunny day and it\u2019s a carnival. Streets
\ndifferent in different weather. Rainy nights are good. Cold rainy nights. Bars filled and warm.
\nStreets empty and cold. People pass and look as members of a fraternity. They need someone and
\ndon\u2019t hide it. They will try anyone out for one night. They have tea together. They go for a drink
\nin some neutral place. They go straight to bed in the dark. They can\u2019t see the face.<\/p>\n
