She Is Overheard Singing<\/h2>\n

Oh, Prue she has a patient man,
\nAnd Joan a gentle lover,
\nAnd Agatha’s Arth’ is a hug-the-hearth,?
\nBut my true love’s a rover!<\/p>\n

Mig, her man’s as good as cheese
\nAnd honest as a briar,
\nSue tells her love what he’s thinking of,?
\nBut my dear lad’s a liar!<\/p>\n

Oh, Sue and Prue and Agatha
\nAre thick with Mig and Joan!
\nThey bite their threads and shake their heads
\nAnd gnaw my name like a bone;<\/p>\n

And Prue says, “Mine’s a patient man,
\nAs never snaps me up,”
\nAnd Agatha, “Arth’ is a hug-the-hearth,
\nCould live content in a cup;”<\/p>\n

Sue’s man’s mind is like good jell?
\nAll one colour, and clear?
\nAnd Mig’s no call to think at all
\nWhat’s to come next year,<\/p>\n

While Joan makes boast of a gentle lad,
\nThat’s troubled with that and this;?
\nBut they all would give the life they live
\nFor a look from the man I kiss!<\/p>\n

Cold he slants his eyes about,
\nAnd few enough’s his choice,?
\nThough he’d slip me clean for a nun, or a queen,
\nOr a beggar with knots in her voice,?<\/p>\n

And Agatha will turn awake
\nWhile her good man sleeps sound,
\nAnd Mig and Sue and Joan and Prue
\nWill hear the clock strike round,<\/p>\n

For Prue she has a patient man,
\nAs asks not when or why,
\nAnd Mig and Sue have naught to do
\nBut peep who’s passing by,<\/p>\n

Joan is paired with a putterer
\nThat bastes and tastes and salts,
\nAnd Agatha’s Arth’ is a hug-the-hearth,?
\nBut my true love is false!<\/p>\n
