<\/h2>\n<\/h2>\nIn 1998 my daughter gifted me a framed copy of a<\/em> Some people want their kids to be doctors I should want my kid to write poetry and it but to be totally honest I wouldn\u2019t wish this I know she\u2019s dabbled and I\u2019m fine with that. Doctor\u2019s take off their white coats at night no one in their right mind would ever, ever! and wait, although it\u2019s quite possible it might That said, poetry tends to make up the rules Jim Murdoch has been writing poetry for fifty years and has graced the pages of many now-defunct magazines and a few, like Ink, Sweat and Tears and Poetry Scotland, that are still hanging on in there. For ten years he ran the literary blog The Truth About Lies but now lives quietly in Scotland with his wife and (increasingly) next door\u2019s cat. \npoem which sits, to this day, on my bedside cabinet.<\/em>
\nIt is the only poem of hers she ever let me read.<\/em><\/p>\n
\nor barristers or to play for
\n[ insert the name of your national team here<\/em> ].<\/p>\n
\nwouldn\u2019t kill me if she did\u2014
\nthe world needs all the poetry it can get\u2014<\/p>\n
\non my worst enemy;
\nlet others call last orders and ring the knell.<\/p>\n
\nI tried to be supportive
\nwithout being encouraging but that\u2019s hard.<\/p>\n
\nand barristers their wigs.
\nPoetry\u2019s not a career. It\u2019s an addiction and<\/p>\n
\nwant that for their kid.
\nIt\u2019s in the genes though so I hold my breath<\/p>\n
\nskip a generation since
\nher mother was more of a reader than writer.<\/p>\n
\nas it goes. So, we\u2019ll see.<\/p>\n
