On the Last Day<\/span><\/h2>\n

On the last day of the world
\n<\/span>I\u2019ll walk the dog along the shore<\/span><\/p>\n

and we\u2019ll notice the little things
\n<\/span>grains of sand glistening in the moonlight<\/span><\/p>\n

all the smells he knows so well
\n<\/span>and we\u2019ll not worry about Columbus<\/span><\/p>\n

misreading the roundness of the world
\n<\/span>or Cortez the worship of horses<\/span><\/p>\n

or Khan where to hide himself
\n<\/span>when the world is gone<\/span><\/p>\n

Something will be going on
\n<\/span>somewhere<\/span><\/p>\n

and we\u2019ll feast in the honor of mornings
\n<\/span>with the traditional toast and jam<\/span><\/p>\n

His recent collections are Children\u2019s Drawings of the Universe<\/em> (Salmon Poetry 2015) and Saint Agnes Outside the Walls<\/em> (FutureCycle 2016).
