Author Bio

Who the heck is Suzanne Dillon: I am an Indiana native who grew up in a small town, went onto college in a medium town, and then have been chasing adventure and new experiences ever since I graduated.

What people know about me is that I’m a volunteer high school rugby coach (18 years!) and that I LOVE animals and oddly salsa dancing too! I’m learning to play the piano finally, and I do my “save the planet” duties as much as possible.

However, what most people, even my family, didn’t know…. is that I had not only a secret love of writing but, like the character, I have unfortunately been through abusive relationships. This book was a coming out for me as a writer, and also a way to exorcise my own internal struggles. Writing this was a great journey for me and publishing it was both terrifying and liberating!

I spend my non-working hours volunteering with girls ages 11-18 teaching them ways to be confident, have inner strength, and to love themselves in hopes of making a positive difference in their lives in a way I wish that I had when I was growing up.

People see me as a constant on the go “do’er”, but I’m truly a dreamer and aim to make this world a better place even if it just means making life better one person or one animal at a time.

Book excerpt

“Elizabeth!” his voice is breathless and right in my ear. He’s pinned me to the ground with his body, his chest against my back, and his face is almost right against mine. I go rigid. I can’t struggle anymore.

Hearing that name just made time stop and the world go blank to me. I haven’t heard my real name in so long that it brings upon a new level of fear in the form of realization that this is the end.

I’m not even sure I’m breathing when he speaks again “Elizabeth, quick, you have to listen to me before they get here.”

I don’t understand what he is saying but he doesn’t wait for comprehension. “I’m going to help you, but we have to go along with what they want for just a little bit, and then I’m going to get you away from them.”

His words aren’t making sense to me. Never have the demons of my dreams spoken like this, never have they spoken of saving me. They only growl their threats of torture until death.

He continues. “I can’t say anything more right now, but don’t say ANYTHING about this when they question you. Stay quiet, and . . .” he trails off, still panting, trying to catch his breath, he flips me over, sits on my stomach and instead of pinning my arms to the ground, he holds them against my chest and puts his face just inches from mine. “I’m going to have to be what they need me to be until I can get you out of sight. So, please . . .” he looks as if he’s begging me. “Please go along with what they ask.”

He hears a noise and quickly turns to look behind him and then back to me with a look of pleading and then, suddenly, his face goes cold and stern. “Please?” He grinds out between his teeth. He stares into my eyes, again just inches from mine. It slaps me into awareness. I suddenly feel the dampness of the ground under me coming through my clothes. I feel how incredibly heavy he is pressing my arms against my chest, and I see the sunlight coming through the leaves behind his head. His light brown hair looks translucent in the back lighting. I feel a faint breeze come across my face and then this ultra brief moment between us is gone.
