Description
Manya is an Ukrainka. A typical girl from this country on the frontier zone between East and West. She is 26 years old.
At the beginning of the book we find her in Hongkong in a posh hotel. She is alone. The night before she discovered that she is pregnant. Lee, her boyfriend-lover-supporter, a wealthy, older man from China, is away on business. Manya has to make up her mind about many things that day: Will she stay with Lee? Does she want to stay in Hongkong? Does she want to have the baby, even if she will possibly be a single mother?
While Manya tries to gather herself, she recollects her childhood and youth, her first experiences with sex and love in a remote Ukrainian village.
This is the first parts of a serial about the adventures of Manya. It will contain many anecdotes and experiences from the lifes of rich expats in Hongkong and all over the world, and of the girls who move among them: gold diggers, adventurers, romantics. Stories of sex and trouble, of exploitation and emancipation…

In the mirror I saw my image. This is how men liked to see me: a slender girl in a negligé, the blond hair caressing my shoulders, blue eyes shining from a face that promised innocence. But I was long past innocence. Maybe one step too much now?
Yesterday I had come back from Tahiti, after one of the most confusing moments of my life. I had travelled there from Hongkong, all ready to finally get serious with my boyfriend Lee. It is his baby, I am carrying inside me. We wanted to spend a vacation together, relax and talk about everything: our lives, our love (was it love? I am not sure, on either side), our future.
How much would I have given to spend this week with another man, just one letter different from Lee. With my Leo. But with Leo there was no chance. I had to forget about him. He would never give me the life I wanted. I got pregnant from Lee probably mostly for spite. The failure of my relationship with Leo had so upset me, I threw myself on the next best man. Well, Lee was not exactly the next best man. We have had a certain relationship, on and off, like it happens often between a rich man and a young woman like me. Can you have a relationship with a toy? Many men seem to think so.
We wanted to talk about that, too, on Tahiti. But when I exited into the arrival zone, there was no Lee. Instead I was approached by a young man in uniform.
„Excuse me, are you Manya Golub?“
„Why, yes, I am. What is the matter?“ I was perplexed.
„I have a message from Mr. Lee Chan. He asked me to give you this.“
He handed me an envelope. There was a ticket to Hongkong, and a reservation for the Conrad Hilton for one week. Which is where I am right now. No note, no explanation.
