Enter Robert Manis, independent consultant to the NU FBI. Robert’s mission will be to subdue these criminal elements wherever he finds them, in a quest to save the VPs daughter, and seek his own retribution in the process. Numerous protective
servants take up positions. They stand out from the capitol
security forces, they’re taller, and there are just as many
women as men in their ranks. These protectors are all
highly confident in their abilities and dedicated to servicing
their master. A woman emerges from the first vehicle. Her
dark hair, blue eyes and tight fitting compression suit, set
the tone. Back-off.

“Keep your distance, you have been warned.” She scowls at
the reporters and media. “Master we are ready.”
More protective servants fan out from the hover craft and
take up positions along the steps. They all come to attention
as the acting director and their master exits his craft. He
is 50, tall, peppered streaks of grey in his goatee; welltanned
and groomed he appears to be 15 years younger.
The older and subdued version of the former covert consultant
adjusts his tie and jacket and begins to ascend the
steps. Robert Manis looks directly ahead. Reporters and
photographers rush to get closer. They hurl their shouts and
questions over the heads of his protective force landing all
around Robert without regard, and then one penetrates his
defenses.

“Director Manis…were you not sir, a hired assassin, hitman
for the NU-FBI, were you not ordered to kill on the
behalf of former Directors Rodriguez and O’neil?” shouts a
reporter.
INTRODUCTIONS 6
Manis abruptly stops and turns to the reporter. His face
does not reflect the memories running through his mind.
EIGHT YEARS PRIOR
It is midday, and a well-dressed man heads into a busy
ultra-modern building with minimal security. Robert Manis
casually walks past the security guards and towards
his desired floor. Once there he observes the actions of the
assistant a very courteous and efficient woman.
“Mr. Caldwell will see you now sir.” She says and escorts
him to the office.
“Thank you, and could I trouble you for some coffee please?
Cream and sugar thank you.” Robert walks in and takes a
seat. He does not shake Caldwell’s hand nor offer any form
of salutation. Instead, he simply admires the space.
“This is quite a nice set up; I am impressed with its layout
and décor. Never would have imagined this level of design
from a vile beast such as you.” He says with a smile.
“So I see that the errand boy has dispensed with the
pleasantries and is here for business. How can I help you
Mr. Manis?”
Robert eases to the end of his chair…
“Ok three things in no particular order. Number one; Mr.
Caldwell your arrangement with the Carnal Cartel does not
concern me; number two, nor do I care about your use as
a go between for us as well; and finally I don’t fucking like
you. Maybe that should have been the first thing?” Robert
INTRODUCTIONS 7
shrugs his shoulders. “At any rate, do you have any idea
why I’ve come to pay you a visit?”
“Frankly I have no fucking clue why you are here, however
it is well known that when the Dir sends his errand boy
the purpose is to kill, not to retrieve. So I will ask you Mr.
Manis, are you here to kill me?” Caldwell slowly reaches
for a hidden weapon within his desk. Robert crosses his
legs and eases back in his chair.
“I am never given orders to kill Mr. Caldwell.” The assistant
enters the office with the coffee Robert requested. She sets
it up on a small table next to him. His eyes never leave
Caldwell though.
“Will that be all Mr. Manis or is there something else you
require?” she says with a whimsical smile.
Robert takes a quick sip of his coffee and then returns the
smile. She turns to walk away and in that split second,
Robert reaches into his jacket withdrawing a Kitana sword.
He stabs her in the ribs and as she bends in response he
stands, swings down, and severs her head.
“My God man!” Caldwell screams. Robert cleans his sword
and turns to walk out of the office.
“Like I said, I am only given orders for whom not to kill,
that would be you. You sir, have a leak in your organization.
That leak posed a serious threat to you and our arrangement.
As a matter of fact it may already be too late. At any
rate, the leak has been patched.” Robert continues out of
the office. Caldwell falls back into his chair, covered in the
INTRODUCTIONS 8
blood of his assistant. Robert stops at the door to deliver
one last word.
“Only those that deserve to die are killed, and she deserved
it.”
Robert exits the office and Caldwell falls back into his chair,
frozen in horror at the bloody scene. A tall voluptuous
figure enters from an adjoining office. She is 55 years old
but looks at least 20 years younger. Her name is Magdalena,
and she is always out for blood.
“Oye dios mio you idiot, you were supposed to detain him
longer with idle chatter, as my men moved into position.
Now I will lose most of them simply because you could not
hold a decent conversation for more than two minutes.
She is visibly upset, and kneels to observe the precision cut
of Roberts’s Kitana sword.
“But I suppose it’s all for the best….” she turns to one of her
aides and rolls her eyes.
“I am so sorry I have done all that you have asked of me,
all is ready, and no one will suspect…” Caldwell offers up
realizing that his time on earth may just have expired.
Magdalena caresses his face and blows him a kiss.
“Yes you have… Kill him, and be quick about it.” The men
move in as she turns and shoots out a window, revealing a
rope for repelling and extraction. She jumps to it and repels
to the roof.
Men stream out into the hallway; Robert turns from the lift,
INTRODUCTIONS 9
Kitana swords at the ready. However, the men in front of
him are heavily armed. He looks about to size them up, and
then….
“Well isn’t this lovely, I actually brought a knife to a gun
fight. Very well…Sic infit.”
The eight men look at him puzzled as Latin is deader as a
language now than it ever was a hundred years prior.
“And so it begins…” Robert shook his arms at the side
and then crosses them at the wrist, exposing two bangle
bracelets. The two bangles energize and a kinetic burst
disables the assailants weapons..
“Ahhh much better, now you can die with honor.” He
assumes a defensive stance as three men charge him; a right
cross, a kick to the groin, a left hook and they are easily
disposed of. This leaves the better men to do battle.
_Hmmm pawns always go first…Now the rook? _
He moves to his left and keeps the wall to his back. A man
charges to his right, and is met with a fierce roundhouse
kick to the sternum.
And now the bishop…
A sharp kick catches Robert in the ribs, and throws two
jabs in succession, which are easily blocked and countered.
The last man joins in with a thundering kick to the chins.
Robert’s back and flank are now exposed; he falls to the
ground and tumbles away from them. He enters into a
defensive posture, based on his own fighting technique.
INTRODUCTIONS 10
“Gentlemen, I do enjoy a good workout but I am running
late for a lunch engagement. Can we hurry up your deaths
please?” he says mockingly.
The remaining men are now incensed and they charge
aggressively at Robert. It is exactly what he wants. He
meets their energy with his own; he leaps off the wall and
launches a roundhouse kick to the nearest man, and with
a clap of his wrists, a kinetic charge impacts the chest of
the next one. A hard vicious knee to the lower back gets
his attention. Robert now off guard prepares to receive
blows from both men from all directions. Robert blocks
most and counters with a jab or two to give him space.
Once achieved, he runs away from them and they chase.
He takes two steps onto the far wall, and propels his body
towards their oncoming rush. He lets loose a kick to the
jaw of the nearest one, and then drops to administer a leg
sweep on the last. The victim falls on his neck dead.
Two bishops and a knight are gone, I really should have
used the swords on them, ahhhh… he looks away… there
goes the queen
He looks up to see Magdalena repelling up into a hover
transport. She blows a kiss back to the defiant Manis.
Once she is aboard, orders are given immediately.
“Activate team two. Once we have her I want the process
to begin promptly. We must have her persuaded to do all
of our bidding within the next 72 hours. Break her hard
strip her of every ounce of morality. Then bring her to me.
INTRODUCTIONS 11
Roosevelt Island, rapido.
