Abram to Abraham<\/p>\n
When Abram was 99 years old, God made a covenant with him, saying He
\nwould multiply Abram exceedingly and that he would be a father of many
\nnations. He also changed Abram\u2019s name to \u201cAbraham,\u201d which means \u201cthe
\nfather of a multitude\u201d (Genesis 17:5, AMP). Abraham would also have to
\nkeep His covenant, which was to circumcise himself, all males with him, and
\nevery male born or purchased through current and future generations. God
\nalso changed Abraham\u2019s wife\u2019s name from Sarai to Sarah.<\/p>\n
Genesis 17:1-27<\/p>\n
God informed Abraham that Sarah would have a son and that she would
\nbecome a mother of nations. Abraham laughed in his heart at the idea of him
\nand Sarah having a child at their age. Eavesdropping on Abraham and God\u2019s
\nconversation, Sarah also laughed at the idea of having a child. But when God
\nasked, \u201cWhy did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I really bear a child when I am so
\nold?\u201d (Genesis 18:13, AMP). Sarah denied it because she was afraid.<\/p>\n
Genesis 17:16-19; Genesis 18:10-15<\/p>\n
Lot still resided in Sodom, a city that had become so full of wickedness that
\nthe Lord was planning to destroy it. The Lord and His angels appeared to
\nAbraham, revealing to him the plans for Sodom. Abraham pleaded with the
\nLord not to destroy the city if righteous people were found. The Lord went
\nHis way, but the two angels went to Sodom.<\/p>\n
