Fight or Flight

by Erika Christie

And it pours and it pours
Holes in the switchboard
Communication through frayed and tired wires
Miles out beyond our reach
If our wings could stretch out across the sky
Fall into our arms, Find your head pressed against our chest
feel the beats, examine its restlessness
“Your loved ones are never coming home!”
Pardon me, Malaysia
You swallowed up my reason for breathing
Trusting lungs burst from the pressure
Rest in piece to those that live free
Spilling guts across the Indian Sea
