Book excerpt
THE BOOK IS DIVIDED INTO THREE MAJOR PARTS,
– ‘The System’, ‘The Documentation’, and ‘The Rollout’. This should not only give a natural sequence and flow of the contents, but also making it more easy for you to look up specific topics along your ICS project. However, starting with an introductory chapter, I will briefly introduce you the history of ICS and how it came into the offshore oil and gas industry. We will also here discuss the original purpose of the ICS, which I find essential for you to be aware of.
In Part I, The System–chapter 1, 2, and 3–we look into the various corporate response teams at their various tiers, continuing with how ICS fits at installation level in the offshore oil and gas organization, and from here I follow up with a detailed explanation on what I call the ICS ‘building blocks’.
In Part II, The Documentation–chapter 4, 5, and 6–we will elaborate on the ICS certification process, to whether it is needed, and highlight some of the pitfalls involved. We continue to discuss the required response documentation in details, and in particular the concept of ‘nice to know’ versus ‘need to know’. With the combined knowledge of certification requirements and response documentation, we will after worth be able to identify training needs, and then consider the ICS training program.
In Part III, The Rollout–chapter 7, 8, and 9–we will identify the implementation process, where I share my experience from large-scale ICS projects, continue with guidance on how ICS should be applied in practice in the offshore oil and gas industry, and further I follow up with suggestions on how to interface with non-ICS emergency response organizations.
The book’s backmatter provides a list of recommended reading along with a detailed reference list.
