Author Bio
I am what you call a late bloomer. I was sixty-three when I started to write my first novel, “Archomai, The Prince, The Scepter, And The Shield.” I have always wanted to write, and now I am seeing that dream come true. My third book will be released sometime this fall; it is a Christmas story, “The First Snowflake.” My first book published was a collection of poetry, the title, “The Old Corner Post.” It is a thirty-year collection of poems and ballads. I am thankful to my publisher, Tate Publishing, who has been a tremendous help to a fledgling writer.
I have spent most of my life on the farm, and I do love working the land. There is a spirit of freedom on the farm that surpasses anything I have ever experienced. I have had many jobs, from truck driving to managing a plastic plant and most everything in between, but I always seem to drift back to the farm. I am truly blessed.
With my wife, our four children and five grandchildren, we live the country life. Our family is within twenty miles of each other, so we get together often. Family has always been important to me and gathering together, especially on holidays is a high point of my life.
Description
In this story is the heartwarming, heartbreaking story of Jeremiah. In the real world, Jeremiah is full of disabilities, but that of which made his inner life overflow with extraordinary depths and riches. Then one day, something happened—something he never dreamed of. A person from the other world, from the kingdom of Archomai, appeared to him, in flesh, and told him that their kingdom needed his help. All of this happening is almost beyond Jeremiah’s understanding, but having a heart of gold, Jeremiah decided to go. And now, in this other world, Jeremiah is no longer disabled—he is a warrior, a swordsman, everything he wanted to be. However, there is more, the kingdom of Archomai is about to break out in total war for its very existence. Jeremiah has come to help with a small matter, but suddenly everything explodes and our hero finds himself putting his life on the line for his new-found friends, and his counter-part. He meets the most beautiful woman he has ever seen. Her name is Selene, and though she is a woman of uncommon beauty, she can wield a sword with the precision of a surgeon. They must face a band of bandits to free the prince, and they are heavily outnumbered.
The great witch, Farmakia from the forest of Barish Lack is thrust into a realm of power given to her from the Lord of the Dark World who is chained in his castle Blackleir, and hurled into another time by the Great Wizard. And she seizes the power and fills her lust for gold. The evil Lord Poneros, a doer of black magic, and the hordes of Draytalon desire the conquest of Archomai. Aphthartos, the Dark Warlock who is imprisoned in the Dark Abyss, also by the Great Wizard, can only help in spirit until he and the Lord of the Dark World are set free.
There is a mystery within the story. If you can glean all the information in Archomai, can you unravel the mystery? It will become easier with the next book, and answered in the third and final book. However, it is possible to see the shadow of the mystery in this book, “Archomai, The Prince, The Scepter, And The Shield.”
Book excerpt
There is a strange and uncertain wind blowing through the lush green valleys of Archomai. The wind has an evil chill to it as it advances before the dark shadow that mass over the once beautiful
mountains. Their peaks rise up and pierce the horizon in the shadowed east. Even the giant, majestic oak trees, sentinels of the great forests, seem to bow before this dark presence. The villages and the shires themselves are subdued with anxiety and fear. They once were happy places with much laughter and good, prosperous times. But many have been invaded by evil men, and the laughter has turned to weeping. Good times have become a faint memory as armies clash. This wind also brings a chill to the hearts of brave men and anguish to the heart of the king. The wind’s wailing brings the sound of war. I am old, but I must stand with the king—and I must fight.
I am Malak, the good wizard of the light, so ordained by the Great Wizard himself. He first chose me, then I him. He said I was his great hope and changed my name from Sir Rothwin to Malak as he gave me the powers of a good wizard. Now, Archomai is in a war for its very existence, and if we are to stand, it will take the courage of all to fight what we fear the most. For me, my worst fear is that the Lord of the Dark World has somehow come back. In the heat of battle, one does not have time to think about what he fears—only to win and live. But if the Lord of the Dark World has risen, it will take every ounce of courage in Archomai to win. And beyond Archomai, even our counterparts that live in the other world, where once we were forbidden to enter. So be it! This is now, and now is where the good inhabitants of Archomai must face the forces of the Dark World, even the Lord of the Dark World if he rises. Men must fight, and the fairies, and the dwarves, and the elves, and even the good little people must unite, and all must give up their distrust of others that are not of their kind. In the time before times, all people were one until the Lord of the Dark World made war, even before the kingdom of Archomai. But all of that started so long ago, and now, there is war again. But I must tell of how this last war began; it seems like yesterday that I was speaking with the king.
“Archomai, Sir Rothwin, Archomai, it must continue to exist.”
“But, sire, to open a portal into the Other World is dangerous and once forbidden, just as it is still forbidden to open a portal into the evil Dark World.”
“Prince Archon is headed for destruction. He will not listen to anyone, and he cares for no one. We must find his counterpart—or all is lost, my old friend.
