JP Osterman

Author Bio

About J.P. Osterman: She was born December 21, in East Chicago, Indiana

Writing Career: As a futurist and serious Science Fiction author focused on future space travel, J.P. Osterman became an Independent Research Scientist studying the laws that govern space and issues relating to space travel, exploration, and colonization of Mars and exoplanets. In addition to the physics of long distance space travel, J.P. studied the necessary computational theories necessary to control of the physics of space travel and extreme time-space compression; optical quantum computing, quantum communication, and AI Computer intelligence reaching well beyond the “Singularity” with organic quantum level human neural interface and exchange.

J.P. Osterman was a reader and writer throughout her youth. She graduated from University of San Diego with a B.A. in English (with an emphasis in writing) and later a Master’s degree from Azusa Pacific University. In the early 1990s, she met Ray Bradbury who inspired her to write science fiction. “I felt that something strange and wonderful had happened to me because of my encounter with Mr. Bradbury, he gave me a future…I began to write every day.”

She has written seven novels, mostly science fiction: from exploring Mars, to spacefolding to an ancient alien world. She has won several awards, including the prestigious Rupert Hughes Award at the seminal Maui Writers Conference for her sci-fi novel, The Matter Stream, which she is transforming into her Nelta Series of novels. She won First Place for her play, The Man Next to Me that was subsequently published in the San Diego Writer’s Monthly magazine.

Description

Subject: IS MANKIND DESTINED TO LIVE ON MARS ?

Space Coast (Melbourne) Florida – August 4, 2014 – Lee Lunsford, NASA’s manager of the Manned Moon/Mars Mission (retired) calls Cosmic Rift brilliant and an amazing piece of Sci-Fi literature – “The most realistic book about space travel I have ever read.”

Author J. P. Osterman, futurist, space research scientist and sci-fi author primarily focused on space exploration and colonization delivers a potent and unforgettable mix of science, moving characters and intrigue with “Cosmic Rift”. It has been said that every successful Sci-Fi novel ever written, whether by, George Lucas, Asimov, Bradbury, Heinlein, Clarke, Verne, or H.G. Wells – the best – have not one but three things in common: Ideas – Characters – Good Writing.

The highly original and exceptionally well written – Cosmic Rift by JP Osterman is one of those unique stories that have all three. An extremely Creative and Realistic SciFi book from an award winning author, indeed the only Sci-Fi author to ever win the prestigious Rupert Hughes Award. It stretches across new thinking in technology – from “The singularity” – to – Nanobots – to – Space Time – to a look at our humanity.

Join several space community luminaries who are already reading Cosmic Rift, from major Aerospace Chief Executives, to NASA dignitaries, to Astrophysicist’s, to Educational Space Program TV moderators, to former Astronauts, and see why there is such a buzz about this book.

Cosmic Rift is an action-packed science fiction story with three main characters, a man, a woman and one ultra-intelligent A.I. computer – what many today call the “technological singularity”, who travel to the edge of the universe looking for potential new worlds to colonize but what they find appears to be an insurmountable threat to our entire universe!

Commander Steve Strunk was raised on Mars. He helped build Smart domes and trained astronauts. With the aid of artificial intelligence, he believes he’s invincible. His co-commander, the beautiful Elizabeth Beals, is a genius who signed up for space exploration to put her past behind her. ISS Mars Headquarters labeled them the ideal team. Nothing is ideal forever…

It’s 2376, and Steve and Elizabeth have been voyaging through space when their ship Amelia awakens them. “Where are we? The date and time has stopped tracking! Why?” Their infallible space craft suddenly fails! The perfect team suddenly falters! Nothing—no amount of training or simulated instruction could have prepared them for this breach in their mission, and their neural interface to the ships A.I. computer ceases. Can they trust their own senses at this critical time when they need them the most?

Vulnerable on an ancient planet and navigating blind at the far reaches of the known universe, their relationship is speeding on a passionate trajectory as Steve and Elizabeth race with a rapidly closing window of time to fix a dooms-day force that will destroy the entire universe the…Cosmic Rift!

Book excerpt

Suddenly Awake

As the dregs of suspension coating slipped down his torso, melted off his toes and soaked into his life-support capsule, Commander Steve Strunk felt the surge of energetic blood racing to his limbs. Sitting up, he ran his hands over his chest and heaved in oxygen. “It’s great to be alive!” He breathed. “Even though I don’t know where the heck we are.”

After a quick walk through the shower arch and donning his nano-altering mission suit, he re-entered the cockpit and ordered: “Activate all systems, TIP. Let’s see where we are and why you space-folded the Amelia here.”

Lights illuminated on twenty hologram platforms along the U-shaped edge of the cockpit. At the bow, were the two life-support capsules, actually glass-covered stasis chambers. His had closed to prepare for his next entry into hypersleep, but next to his set Elizabeth Beals’ chamber. His co-commander, Elizabeth was still in deep-stasis slumber. He activated the chamber readings on the screen next to her, waiting for it to display her vital signs.

Along the walls, thirty 4D screens began scrolling stats. At the epicenter of the cockpit, stood two Rock-n-Glide command chairs from where he could see anything inside the cockpit, monitor his ship’s interior, and get a clear view of space through the observation dome of his Space-Folding (SF-10,) super-carrier spacecraft, Amelia.

Fifteen of the mighty space machines were built by Lockheed Martin in 2193. The key to the entire spacecraft program were the practical drive engines created by scaling their compact cylinder based nuclear fusion reactor developed way back in the mid-21st century. By 2226, five of them were investigating two galaxies when space became the Conquerable Ocean. Amelia was completed on May 30, 2376, and Steve Strunk and Elizabeth Beals, his co-commander, were assigned as pilots for her maiden voyage. Their mission: like the Golden Records on Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 were designed to beckon aliens, Steve Strunk and Elizabeth Beals were to launch informational pods into various trajectories of exoplanets that the Gaia Mission, CHEOPs and TESS satellites, detected from the year 2275 to when he and Beals launched from Space Station VII around Mars on July 4, 2376.

Now, he had no idea of the date, time, and the mission’s status; but Elizabeth was safe, all her stasis chamber vitals were displaying, normal on her body monitor. No need to wake her, yet.

On his Amelia, all Steve had to do was think an order and he’d have an immediate brain connection, a Neural Interface and Exchange (NIE) right into the ship’s Yottascale-computer named TIP, the Telepathic Intergalactic Processor driven by organic nanotechnology. TIP first appeared during the early 23rd century as a quantum-computer, processing more than 1 billion times faster than older silicon-based supercomputers, and now more powerful than all human intelligence combined.

Hide us, now.

That was his first private order to TIP. He wanted the ship camouflaged, and TIP went into nano-metallic mode, coating Amelia to blend with space.
