Author Bio

I first started writing when I was 18 years old though I never took it seriously. I would write little short stories here and there and let my friends read them and they generally would praise me. However I didn’t start to get serious about my writing until i was 23. I had a story that i was working on for 2 years prior that I didn’t let anyone read. Mainly because I was going through something at the time and I didn’t have an high image of myself. Well, one day i was at work and a co-worker and I began to talk about our hobbies. I explained to him that I was an aspiring author and I was writing a book. He asked me could he read what I had already and I was a bit reluctant at first, but then I changed my mind and let him read what I had. A few short hours later he ran up to me and said it was great. Naturally I didn’t believe him until he told me he let other people read it and they wanted more. So I pushed myself and became more serious about my writing.

Book excerpt

Walking down the street lost in his thoughts, Jack suddenly crashed into someone. This someone was solid as a rock and Jack hit the ground, hard. Just as he hit the ground he felt the same splitting headache from earlier, saw the same brilliant flash, and felt reality shift around him once more, a sensation that was quickly becoming too familiar. The sidewalk disappeared underneath him and he was standing in a cold, damp room. The only source of light came from a single light bulb that dangled from the ceiling. This time, Jack knew this was no memory of his. The scene was one in which he was sure he had never been before. He saw the back of a man in a white lab coat standing in front of an empty operating table. The man glanced over his shoulder and then slowly turned. Jack was about to catch a glimpse of his face when suddenly he was back on the sidewalk, his hands stinging from their collision with the concrete. Looming over him was the biggest man Jack had ever seen in his life. He must have been at least 6’7″ a giant from Jack’s perspective, a frame that looked like it carried around three hundred pounds of muscle. He had a large scar across his face amplified by an unpleasant grimace. Quickly, Jack picked himself up off the ground, noticing as his eye level rested on the man’s jacket that he had an insignia stitched there: a red circle with what looked like seven red spears sticking out of it like spokes.

“Watch where you walk” the huge man grumbled.

He pushed past Jack, this time Jack kept his balance, but Jack felt himself being pulled into another flash.

“Not again!” he thought as he struggled to keep his consciousness, but it was too late. There was the splitting headache, the bright light, and he was in another memory, another memory that was not his own. He felt his hands wrapped around a man’s throat. The man’s eyes bulged as he gasped for air. Jack could feel the man’s nails dig into the backs of his hands as the man attempted to free himself from the stranglehold. Then, without warning the man reached down, produced a shining blade, and slashed Jack’s face. Jack felt no pain, but he started to see blood blur his vision. He felt an incredible anger rise within him. His hands on the man’s throat clasped shut, crushing the man’s windpipe. Jack felt the sickening crunch as the bones in the man’s neck broke. The man’s body went limp and Jack threw the body away easily like a rag doll. Then, he reached up to his face and felt a wide gash. He felt the soft meat underneath his flesh and smelt the blood. He turned his hand to wipe it callously from his cheek when suddenly he found himself back outside in his own body on all fours in the middle of a crowded sidewalk, vomiting. Jack looked up to see that a crowd had formed around him.

He made eye contact with a middle-aged woman in a sweater and a scream escaped her rose red lips.

“Oh my god his eyes! He doesn’t have any eyes!” A ripple of panic spread through the crowd until one man knelt beside Jack and looked into his eyes like a doctor reading for symptoms.

“This man’s eyes are fine. No need to panic.” The man chuckled at the hysterical woman. “Poor guy probably ate something earlier and it didn’t agree with his stomach.” He turned back to Jack, “Kinda wish you didn’t puke all over the sidewalk though. You coulda’ done that in the alley.”

Jack reached up toward his face and felt for where the man in the memory had slashed him. No soft meat, no blood.

“Can you walk?” The man asked, helping Jack up.

“Yeah… I… I think so.”

Jack cringed when the man patted him on the back and after a couple deep breaths he managed to keep his balance.

“Thanks… I gotta get going.” Jack said weakly

“Yeah kid, take it easy next time.” The middle aged man replied
