Choosing a Genre'
« on: March 04, 2012, 06:52:44 PM »

I'm a newbie and not sure I'm posting this in the right place.  Please let me know if it should go somewhere else.

I've just begun to write and feel that I could write in several different genre's.  I am certain that I want to write fiction novels but feel an affinity for several different genre's or sub-genre's.  I know that I need to narrow the scope of my writing but not sure how to go about doing this.

Any thoughts or insights are appreciated.

Write whatever you feel like writing. Many writers write in all genres, really. Some even write under different names in each genre. Anyway, just write what takes you. Most important is to finish what you start, and keep writing. If you start a piece of non-fiction, finish it, a novel, finish it, a short story finish it, a poem, finish it!
