Because We Steer by Dead Stars by Claire Scott

Because We Steer by Dead Stars

by Claire Scott

Because the earth’s axis is tilted 23.5%
because Venus is forty-one million kilometers from earth
because the sun will boil our oceans in one billion years
because moon-blessed longings turn to cosmic dust
because I will soon redshift away, slipping through
an event horizon, moving at the speed of heartbreak
because I need to find the shape of me inside you
before I travel beyond the light
I reach for your hand

Claire Scott is an award winning poet who has received multiple Pushcart Prize nominations. Her work has been accepted by the Atlanta Review, Bellevue Literary Review, New Ohio Review, Enizagam and Healing Muse among others. Claire is the author of Waiting to be Called and  Until I Couldn’t. She is the co-author of Unfolding in Light: A Sisters’ Journey in Photography and Poetry.
