Profile: Richard Miller

To say I'm a late starter would be an understatement. Wizened and weather-beaten it's taken me the better part of 65 years to get two-thirds of the way through my first book. Breaking that down it was twenty years of childhood and adolescence followed by forty-three years of muddled thinking followed by two years of writing. This morning started brilliantly. The first decent idea for an ending popped into my head.

If it works it may prove to be a rich source for follow-up work, short stories, poems and songs. If it doesn't it will be yet another aimless rambling from an elderly person trying to make sense out of the nonsense of life.

I'm old fashioned, bemused and befuddled by social media, averse to advertising, and couldn't sell umbrellas in a thunderstorm.

If we, as a species, are to survive we must tear down walls, embrace diversity, learn to communicate and coordinate. Collect the best ideas and distil them into solutions.

Fortunately I'm just rich enough to survive on cabbage and beans while writing what I damn well please.
