The Best Social Networking Sites and Message Boards for Writers have become more difficult over the last 5-10 years to find. It’s amazing how some very well established sites just disappeared after Facebook climbed to the top of the mountain. I’m going to avoid added Twitter, Linkedin, Pinterest, or Facebook to this list. We all know how helpful those sites are for marketing your platform and your work.
On this list are sites that deal with writing directly. These are social networks and sites for authors and writers, and message boards. These sites are essential to writers for other reasons than just marketing opportunities. Too many times we only worry about supporting ourselves by promoting, but we don’t worry about other authors or even the sites who are helping us promote our books and our writing. So go to these sites, become part of their communities and support them by signing up and frequenting them and help them survive as the Best Social Networking Sites and Message Boards for Writers on the web.
Word of warning here: If these networks have you PUBLISH work that shows up on search engines or are broadcast to the larger community, journals and magazines may count this as having published the work. SOME of those publications will then reject your work.

Writing.com
They have been around forever. They have a strong community of authors and writers who can help. You can get some very positive feedback from them. The big ding against them is that they charge for a full service membership. Though you can access some of the features with a free account, you will need to pay $19.95 a year (as last count) to get full use of all their features. Honesty, it’s less than 2$ and it supports a long term community and helpful community on the web.

Ok, about 30 years ago the amazing Francis Ford Coppola (yes director of the Godfather and other award winning films) started this magazine. I think it’s the same idea now.

I’ve been plowing through my links and discarding many. I decided to keep the link to this page because of the writing on the page. Just thought I’d put it out there. 🙂

I’m checking these sites out, quite slowly to get an idea if I’d like to join, and I’m guessing Book In A Week in “No More”. I’ve looked for it and can’t find it. It’s a shame really because I was really interested in that one.
