    From the Editor

Snapping Twig – An Art & Lit Magazine publishing emerging and established writers & artists [for the Thrive ART Creative]:

Snapping Twig began in earnest in 2012 as an open art space which was first intended by its founder (editor / writer: NET) to be a way to pay tribute to art and the inspiration of her twin sister – an artist who was tragically killed in 1999. Because of a love for art and a growing influence in poetry as well as other publishing ventures, after a lot of time and effort in the building a foundation for the website’s purpose, the work began to expand into its own. By the close of 2014 it was evolving into a full-bodied publication that then set out to actively seek more artists, writers and their work. At its core, the project is about nurturing creative expression and being aware of it in our own skin; being aware of a need to live creatively, and an understanding and appreciation for art itself – having an understanding of its place in our culture and knowing how it has influenced if not been in-part responsible for what we know about the history of our world today. Snapping Twig makes a point of inspiring other creatively minded people to find a way to expand their voice and unshackle themselves from limitations that attempt to tell them, ‘what they can write about or how; what they should be saying or how not to be bad’.

“We do not want people to think that we don’t have any guidelines or any idea of what we’re looking for. We do not accept a lot of the work that comes our way and we’ve certainly been doing this long enough and know what qualities will stand out and make someone’s work stand on its own, so we definitely don’t want work that isn’t good – we want your best work… We just believe ones best creative work comes from that place where we’re not trying so hard to measure up – when we’re just being the artist we are. That means not too intent upon comparing oneself to others or creating with the idea about what we (the editors) want, in mind. That’s not what we want people to do when they are creating work to send to us. We want to be moved. We want to feel, see, and breathe the passion of the person who wrote or created whatever it is we’re taking in. We just want to see you, the artist, or you – the writer. We want your voice. We want to stand in your silence and then watch you break it.”

The collection of work published to-date is a good place to start in order to get a better idea of what we’ve loved thus far. No two submissions are ever the same and that is how it should be. Send your best work – that’s it.

    Submissions

Snapping Twig accepts work year-round and publishes online on an ongoing basis. Submissions are open to all forms of creative work from poetry, flash, short-fiction, and rants to film shorts, digital art, drawing, painting, etc. A quarterly edition of the collection published online is made into its own issue, four times a year. Work is accepted via online submissions only. Please send submissions to: editor(at)snappingtwig(dot)com.

    Upcoming

Currently, we are not hosting any major events as far as contests are concerned but plan to participate in events and other opportunities in the future. We do have our own meager little poem of the week award, which really is just about praising our contributors to death and is based a lot in readers response, but we pretty much promote all our contributors in a lot of behind-the-scenes effort so we’re always holding everyone in esteem anyway. There are a lot of things in the works and opportunities coming down the line. We’re writers and artists too, so we want the same things our contributors do, which I think really supports what we will bring to Twig going forward. We will definitely be getting involved and have our hands in future events. The best thing to do is stay connected, so you hear about what’s coming next.
