Information about your publication: Creative Nonfiction is the voice of the genre. Published since 1994 as a journal, in 2010 CNF adopted a larger magazine format that combines new creative nonfiction about a variety of topics with columns and features about the art, business and craft of the genre. Recent issues have included interviews with or new work by Susan Cheever, Dave Eggers, Phillip Lopate, Lauren Slater, Ruth Reichl and other well-known writers, as well as several never-before-published writers.
What type of submissions you are looking for: Creative Nonfiction seeks all kinds of creative nonfiction, including experimental/boundary-pushing work. Generally, we’re looking for a strong narrative (a story), balanced by a strong informational element. We like the stories we publish to reach beyond the individual writer and to strike some universal chord.
Information on Contests: CNF holds contests several times a year in conjunction with special theme issues. Recent contest themes have included Animals, Food and Anger & Revenge. Upcoming themes include True Crime and Australia. Contests usually have a reading fee, with the option to add a subscription for a small additional fee.
