Lotus-eater is an online literary magazine based in Rome, Italy. Founded in 2014, the publication has established itself with a distinct aesthetic that can be described as dark, eclectic, and often experimental. The editorial team, led by Diana Mastrodomenico and Marco Costantini, curates content that pushes boundaries and challenges conventional literary forms.
The magazine maintains a consistent publishing schedule of two issues per year—one fall/winter edition and one spring/summer edition—which are made available as free downloadable PDFs on their website. Currently, they are accepting submissions for Issue 21.
Lotus-eater actively seeks daring, unusual writing and striking images that align with their vision. Their acceptance of various genres—including fiction (from flash fiction to longer works up to 5000 words), non-fiction, poetry, literary reviews, and black and white photography—demonstrates their commitment to providing a platform for diverse creative expressions.
The magazine has built a community of readers and contributors who appreciate their focus on originality and experimentation, with their work being accessible through their website (https://lotus-eatermagazine.com) and social media platforms including Twitter/X and Facebook.
