From the Editor
Silent Auctions is an online magazine with an emphasis on atmosphere, authenticity, and experimentation. We celebrate and encourage unconventional prose, fiction, and poetry. We publish cartoons and comics because we believe they deserve a more respected role in the literary landscape. We also publish art and animated shorts on our website. We embrace the fringe, the dark, the alt, the irreverent, the goofy, and the strange. Some notable names we have published so far are Tao Lin, Bethany Ball, Victoria Redel, David Hollander, Marisa Acocella, Richard Van Ingram, Alicia Eisen, and, forthcoming, Rick Moody. Among the more acclaimed contributors, we have published some incredible work from lesser known artists and writers, both solicited and unsolicited. We launched the online magazine in April of this year (2019), and distributed to bookstores throughout Manhattan an inaugural, promotional printed ‘highlight-reel’ in June of this year. We will be periodically publishing print issues with selected works from the website, but we are primarily an online magazine and rolling publication.
We are looking for bold submitters, people who don’t want to compromise their art to adhere to the dimensions of a world they want to participate in. We want artists and writers who will stand by their creative convictions, who believe in their artistic visions despite how divergent, odd, abnormal, or ‘fringe’ it may seem. We want to take the notion of ‘literary’ and widen it by allowing genres such as ‘sci-fi’ to exist beside work more readily and widely deemed ‘acceptable’ in the landscape of literature, We want prose experiments, authentic expression, sincerity, passion, fun, creativity, and bravery. This is a place where artists can share the work they most like of their’s, as opposed to publishing houses or book agents. We take poetry submissions, fiction submissions, comic submissions, cartoon submissions, illustration submissions, animated-shorts (largely stop-motion) submissions. We will consider all category and series pitches as well. Please see our submission guidelines for further details.
