Information about your publication: The Golden Key is a bi-annual journal of speculative and literary writing inspired by the Grimm Brothers’ fairy tale of the same name. The Grimms chose ?The Golden Key? to end their collection of fairy tales as a reminder that there is always more to come, an endless reserve of stories still yet untold. In the same spirit, The Golden Key seeks to publish poetry and fiction that is open to the strange and marvelous possibilities of the world around us. Each issue explores one of the wonderful things ? either literal or figurative ? one might find upon opening the little iron chest. Each celebrates the curiosity and enchantment of the Grimms? tale with work that is odd, surprising, and unafraid to venture down the unknown path.
What type of submissions are you looking for?: We accept fiction and poetry, both literary and speculative. Realist work sensitive to the magical and strange. The fantastical. Slipstream. Fabulist. Gothic. We love writers who see familiar things in unexpected ways, and writers who revel in language. While we are interested in the possibilities of genre fiction, hard science fiction or fantasy will be a tougher sell. Each issue is themed, so please check the theme before sending us your submission. We prefer fiction submissions under 6,000 words and poems that are under 100 lines. Send an email to submissions[at]whatwonderfulthings[dot]net with ?Submission: Your Title Here [Fiction/Poetry]? in the subject line. Your work should be emailed as an attachment; we accept documents in .doc, .docx, .rtf, or .pdf formats. Please send only one story submission at a time, though we will accept up to three poems in a single submission. Please wait until you hear back from us before you submit more.
