Shame
by Anne Lost
Shame
Always came
with sticky fingers
darting eyes
taking
what wasn’t
mine
Yet hungry
cries
had me
reaching
and taking
to quiet
the grumbling
rumbling,
to erase haunted
looks
and fill
hollow cheeks
of us three kids
looking for food
each and every
week
